Rod Dixon ran the tangent (shortest route) on the curves, while Geoff Smith ran wide (longest distance) on those same curves, and that is why he lost. Of course now after actually watching this clip I see that Dixon stated this clearly. Wow. Smith must have lost his mind in Central Park.

Just want thank the People who displayed these wonderful old video's of famous Athletes all those years ago and wow, I had actually forgot this Marathon, Kiwi determination at it's BEST ROD DIXON. I remembered Alison Roe's race all those years ago - the young lass who wore white gloves and won one too.

Congratulations Rod Dixon. That was a great win. You were so far behind and then you caught up. The second place runner was very tired I noticed when he was nearing the finish line. I like to think of you in the Olympics too.

This marathon was really meaningful to me and my wife (couple with pink shirts at 1:31) as she is a breast cancer survivor. We were both registered to run the 2019 marathon when she was diagnosed, so I run that one on my own. Did the same in 2020, but now we were able to do it together. Thank you to Asics for promoting such nice event. Congratulations to all who challenged themselves and completed the run.
